Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher - Blog Tour, Giveaway and Exclusive Interview with Tarryn!

Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher

The long awaited release of Tarryn Fisher's Mud Vein has finally occurred, the long weeks of trembling anticipation are now ended.  Those who were eviscerated by the landscapes of the heart so deeply and deftly created in the Love Me With Lies Series won't be disappointed by this sonorous and soulful journey down the murky rivers of remembrance, regret and (maybe?) redemption.

Who's That Girl?

Here's what Tarryn says about herself: "I am a real life villain, truly. I drink sick amounts of Starbucks. Most of the time my hair smells like coffee. I was born in South Africa, and lived there for most of my childhood. I moved to Seattle just for the rain. Rome is my favorite place in the world so far, Paris comes in at a close second. I read and write more than I sleep. When I was eleven, I wrote an entire novel about runaway orphans, using only purple ink. I am addicted to Florence and the Machine and will travel to see concerts. I love scary movies and giraffes. I spend way too much time on Facebook. Meet you there?…"  What Tarryn leaves out is that she's a passionate and loyal friend, full of dark humor and wit, spontaneous, soulful and so intense it's almost frightening being close to her. Almost.

An Intimate and Amazing Interview with Tarryn!
I can't tell you how delighted I am to have Tarryn here in the interview chair here at dear old Still Seeking Allies blog.  I've been a fan, a devotee, a stalker, even, since first reading The Opportunist, way back in the summer of 2012 (my Goodreads review is here, btw, if you're interested, it's an amazing read).  Without further ado, let's fire up the Iron Maiden and get this inquisition (oops, I mean interview!) started , SSA style!

Thanks for joining us, Tarryn!  One thing I love about you is your sophisticated and sexy sense of style (I'm still recovering from those leather pants you wore in New Orleans, just so you know!) In addition to your awesome outfits,  what would you say is your favorite accessory?
I love wearing leather cuffs.
Ed. note - whoa, not messing around, kicking it off with a bang!  I agree, they look awesome on you, and remind me of your rockstar status, and your prowess with a bow and arrow.  Katniss could so learn some things from you, girlfriend!

Who is your favorite villain?
Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series
Ed. note - Hmm, interesting, mud bloods, mud vein, I'm seeing a theme of purity and defilement, maybe? And of Slytherin style ambition which maybe needn't always be evil. but yeah, sometimes it just is.

How about some intellectual insight into your 5 favorite books of all time?
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (all)
Ed. note - Okay, I'm not going to call you on your last choice being of the "I wish for three more wishes" category.  I love that each of your choices has such a strong "voice," as well as amazing characters and narrative.  It's one of the things I love about your work, the way the poetry pulses through the propulsive narrative and character creation.  And, gentle reader, did you know that the title "Gone With The Wind," is from a poignant poem by the 19th century Decadent Movement poet Ernest Dowson?  I love the poem, it has kind of a Tarryn-esque vibe, honestly, full of yearning, lost love and deep but painful memories.  Dowson had a knack for memorable lines - "The Days of Wine and Roses" is from another of his poems.

So, after all the anticipation for Mud Vein, have you got anything for us to look forward to? What are you working on now?
My tan and my quads...and maybe a YA series
Ed. note - Count me as extremely interested in all of the above! (Not in a creepy way, no, of course not!)  The YA series will be awesome, and consistent with some of your favorite 5, above.  I know I'm excited now to hear more about that!

I know you've been to quite a few book signings over the past couple of years, do you have any horror stories to share?

Not with the readers. Hanging out with the authors after hours is another story. Rebecca Donovan has the energy of a six year old girl. She once tried to get me to jump off the roof of a building.
Ed. note - I've had the very great pleasure of meeting you at a couple of signings, and can attest to your gracious acceptance of over the top reader enthusiasm.  For fans, seeing you hanging with people like Rebecca is all part of the amazing experience of those events.

Some of your ideas are pretty out there (like Caleb's amnesia in The Opportunist, just for one example) How do you come up with those ideas in general?  Do you jot them down when they come to you?  Are you in a crowded coffee shop or in a quiet environment when you formulate your thoughts?
I really don’t know. I think that maybe I was born full of ideas. They just all sit there waiting, until it’s their turn.

Thanks so much for joining us, Tarryn!  Wishing you the very best of success with Mud Vein and that exciting YA project we're looking forward to hearing more about!  Whatever you do, wherever you go, you can always count on Still Seeking Allies for support, we love you that much! And now, let's take a deeper look at Mud Vein, and some of the release events going down this week!
Mud Vein - Synopsis

When reclusive novelist Senna Richards wakes up on her thirty-third birthday, everything has changed. Caged behind an electrical fence, locked in a house in the middle of the snow, Senna is left to decode the clues to find out why she was taken. If she wants her freedom, she has to take a close look at her past. But, her past has a heartbeat…and her kidnapper is nowhere to be found. With her survival hanging by a thread, Senna soon realizes this is a game. A dangerous one. Only the truth can set her free.

An Excerpt

There is a string that connects us that is not visible to the eye," he said.  "Maybe every person has more than one soul they are connected to, and all over the world there are these invisible strings." As if to make his point, his finger traced a black ribbon that ran through my horse's mane. "Maybe the chances that you’ll find each and every one of your soulmates is slim. But sometimes you’re lucky enough to stumble across one. And you feel a tug. And it’s not so much a choice to love them through their flaws and through your differences, but rather you love them without even trying. You love their flaws.

For me, If you would come back home, by William Fitzsimmons calls those emotional connections to mind, those strings made visible, if only for a moment.  They palpably connect us not only to each other, but to our shared past, through memories, shared objects and experiences, leaving us to wonder are they bleeding from us, or infusing us with new life ...
